According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on a new budget (expected price $399 ) iPhone which will be released during the first half of 2020. Apple is aiming to bring the newest technology to customers at a lower price point.
Name
Rumors referred to this device as the “iPhone SE 2” or “iPhone 9” but Apple is simply going to call the device “iPhone SE”, cementing its position as a follow up to the original 2016 iPhone SE.
Design
Everyone is expecting iPhone SE to have iPhone 5 design with a small 4-inch screen, but the new iPhone is expected to look like an iPhone 8 more than anything else. Based on the rumors, the new device is going to be an updated iPhone 8 that uses the same components as the iPhone 8 – case makers already started creating cases for it.
2020 iPhone SE Specs
iPhone SE 2020 will feature a 4.7-inch LCD display (probably made by LG) but will come upgraded with the same A13 chip that is in the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, it will be super speedy.
It will include 3GB RAM, and won’t have Face ID but will include Touch ID Home button at the bottom of the device.
There will be a single-lens rear camera to keep costs low (probably the same as iPhone 8 has), and it’s expected to come white, black red color options. Storage options are likely to include 64, 128, and 256 GB.
Battery life should be vastly improved over the one in iPhone 8 with the removal of 3D Touch, a special feature on older iPhones. The main selling point of Apple’s previous iPhone SE was its compact size, but it seems that the 4.7-inch display is as small as Apple is going to get in the future.
iPhone SE 2 plus?
iPhone SE 2020 hasn’t been released but, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already shared his predictions about its successor, coming in 2021. He expects Apple to introduce an “iPhone SE 2 plus” with a bigger 5.5 or 6.1-inch LCD display and it will also be positioned as a lower-cost iPhone.
Will corona impact new iPhone
At this time, it’s unclear if the COVID-19 outbreak is going to impact the launch of the iPhone SE 2020. Japanese site Nikkei says that Apple is considering pushing back the launch of its 2020 iPhones by several months.
Price and release date
The price for the iPhone 8 is currently 449$, the iPhone SE is expected to undercut that by at least 50$. There’s even a possibility that Apple goes even lower with the price of the original iPhone SE(2016) at 349$.
