Though Motorola is now confident again to dabble in the premium smartphone sector, it will still remain true to making great mid-range smartphones. The company is making a midrange version of its anticipated Motorola Edge+ smartphone, the Motorola Edge. Just like its premium counterpart, the device will offer some flagship features at a mid-range price.

New leaked images and specs of the phone surfaced on the internet cutesy of XDA Developers.

Leaked images of the phone that appeared last month did not provide conclusive details on the curvature of the display since it was shot head-on. Latest pictures shot at different angles give us a clear sense of what the display looks like.

The images clearly show that the device has what many call a “waterfall” display. It is dramatically curved going down almost half the thickness of the device though not as aggressive as Huawei’s curved display flagship. The mobile phone manufacturer has left place for a physical power and volume rocker buttons.

The display may be a 90Hz display which will allow users choose between the standard 60Hz refresh rate, a higher refresh rate (in this case 90Hz), and an “auto” refresh rate mode. The settings page states that the “auto” mode uses “AI to always show the optimal refresh rate.”

Its a hole-punch cutout display that houses a 25MP front-facing camera. The hole looks refreshingly small much like what Samsung offers in its newest line of phones, the Samsung Galaxy S20.

A company called Sentons recently announced a partnership with Foxconn to facilitate the creation of virtual buttons, but that doesn’t look to be in use here. Opinions are divided on “waterfall” displays, so we’ll see if this trend survives once more smartphones with “waterfall” displays arrive this year.

The Motorola Edge looks to sport a 3.5mm headphone jack and may support microSD card slot expandable storage. Given that these two features are fast disappearing from new smartphones, it’s nice to see it in the Motorola Edge line.

Motorola has experience with many camera modules. They have included camera options like the wide-angle camera mounted perpendicularly on the Motorola One Action, a 2MP dedicated macro camera on the Motorola One Macro, a high-resolution 64MP main camera on the Motorola One Hyper.

The new Motorola Edge in development according to the leaked images features a 64MP main camera, a 16MP wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. The 64MP image sensor outputs at 16MP with 4-in-1 pixel binning.

The three cameras are arranged vertically to the top left side on the rear. Next to the triple cameras, you’ll find the phone’s laser auto-focus and dual-LED flash.

The back also carries the Motorola logo on the back and conversely no rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The phone will feature an optical under-display fingerprint scanner.

In terms of color finish, the Edge will come a sanguineous deep red color. There will likely be other colors, however.

Other images show that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC, has 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, a 4,500mAh battery.

The device may not support wireless charging, the speed of the wired charging is not yet known. It is also unclear if the phone will support 5G. But the Snapdragon 765 SoC processor has integrated Snapdragon X52 modem supports 5G so we suspect the phone will be 5G compatible.

We don’t yet know when the phone will be launched. stay in touch as we will be updating this article as new information comes in.
