Guide: How To unlock iPhone or Samsung if You Forgot Your PIN?

Smartphones and other similar mobile devices use a PIN code to keep user data safe. Every user has a PIN code that protects his phone. But, what happens if someone forgets his PIN? “How do I unlock my phone if I forgot my PIN” is a very common question today. The good news is that there are a few methods that you can try to resolve this issue and we will explain them in this guide.

Older Android devices

If your phone uses an older version of Android (4.4 or lower) you will have to follow this guide:

Start by typing an incorrect PIN or pattern for five times in a row. If you’ve done this correctly, you will notice a button that displays forgot password, forgot PIN, or forgot pattern sign.
Click the button.
After doing this, you will be asked to type your username and password used on the Google account. Remember that we are talking about the account that’s used on your Android device.
If you know the username and password, you will get access. After that, you can change the PIN, pattern, or password if you want to.

Newer Android devices

This guide is designed for users that have phones with Android 5.0 or newer. The method that allowed users to bypass the password or PIN in the past has been eliminated from these phones. In other words, you can’t expect to get to the button that will let you enter the username and password. The reason why Android developers have decided to do this is to provide extra protection to users.

Yet, this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to unlock your phone. For example, if you have turned on the Smart Lock feature on your Android device, you might be able to automatically unlock the device when you log in to your home Wi-Fi network. Once again, if you get a chance like this, it’s best to change the password when you get the opportunity and store it in a safe place.

Depending on the brand of your Android phone, you might be able to use other solutions. For instance, if you own a Samsung phone and your device is linked to your Samsung account, you can use the Samsung Find My Mobile feature. You have to visit the official website, use your username and password, and choose the Unlock my screen feature. In this way, you can access your phone remotely without entering your PIN. There are a few other things that you can do through this website.

Some advanced users that have unlocked the bootloader and included a customer recovery option to their device can use that to eliminate the code. But, in most cases, you will have to use a factory reset to make this option work.

Factory reset as a last option

This might not be a popular option, but it can help you in a situation like this. The reason why people hate this option is that they will lose the data stored on their device. But, if you really need to unlock your phone and the rest of the options are not working, you will have to rely on this method. Keep in mind that you can still save some of the data if it’s stored on a memory card. Needless to say, you will have to remove the card before performing a factory reset.
