Things To Do Before Selling Your iPhone

Do you want to buy a new iPhone 11 but find yourself cash-strapped or on a budget? Why not let your old iPhone saves you? Selling your old phone can help you recover at least half the cost of the new phone. So before selling your iPhone check out these simple steps on what to do before selling your old phone.

Unpair Apple Watch

If you have paired an Apple Watch with your iPhone, unpair it from your phone. To do that open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Go to the My Watch tab and tap your watch at the top of the screen. Tap the info button next to the watch that you want to unpair and then tap Unpair Apple Watch.

Back-Up Your iPhone

Before you erase all of your phone’s data, make sure that you first take a backup of your data, so that you can restore it to your new iPhone. You can back up to iCloud or to your local machine (laptop, computer) with iTunes, or you can do both to be extra safe.

Back up via iCloud

iCloud automatically backups most of your data on your iPhone on a daily basis. But you should manually take a backup one last time before you delete all of your personal data. Go to settings then click on your name then iCloud and iCloud Backup and tap on Back Up Now. This will take a few minutes and will vary depending on when your iPhone was last backed up to iCloud.

Backup using iTunes

Connect your smartphone to the computer that you normally sync it with. Then open iTunes and select your iPhone under Devices in the left-handed navigation panel. Right-click the device and select Back Up.

Erase All Data On Your Phone

Now that you have taken a backup of your personal data, you need to delete all the data and setting from your old device. So to do that go to Settings app then tap on general and scroll down to the bottom and tap on Reset and then tap on Erase All Content and Settings. You may have to enter the passcode that you have set after entering it just tap on Erase iPhone.

This process will take from a few minutes to several hours based on the version of your iPhone and the amount of data you have. If you want to be even safer you can erase all the settings you had on your phone (If you have jail broken iPhone do this). Connect iPhone to the computer and restore all settings and data by clicking the “Restore” button on iTunes.

Sign Out Of iCloud

Go to settings then tap on your name scroll to the very end and tap Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off.

Remove iPhone From Your Apple ID

It will be good to unregister your old phone from Apple’s website so that it is no longer linked to your Apple ID. To do this go to the Apple ID website, log in if you aren’t logged in then click on iPhone under the Devices, and click on the Remove from Account.

Remove SIM

Before selling your phone don’t forget to remove your SIM card, and if you are on a GSM network. If you are using the CDMA network make sure to request deactivation of your device by contacting your carrier.
